Offers that ask you to receive packages at home, inspect or relabel them, and ship them somewhere else are a major warning pattern. Fraudsters may use workers as unwitting package mules while stolen payment methods or identities sit behind the purchases.

## Fake checks and equipment purchases

A recruiter who sends a check and tells you to buy equipment, send money to a preferred vendor, or return an overpayment may be setting up a fake-check loss. Banks can make funds appear available before a deposited check is finally determined to be fraudulent.

## Verify the employer outside the message

Locate the company’s official website independently, check whether the role appears on its careers page, compare recruiter email domains, and contact the company through a verified channel. Do not rely only on links and phone numbers sent by the recruiter.
